  • Source for Natamycin (Pimaricin)?

Posted by Anonymous on November 27, 2013 at 9:58 pm

I wanted to experiment with some anti-fungal additives. (FYI, The product is actually for a cold-pack, so the gel formula does not get on the skin, but we still want to make it very natural so that is why the rest of our formula is more along the lines of cosmetics.) I was wondering if anyone has tried Natamycin (Pimaricin) and how your experience was. Also, where did you source it? I’d rather not buy from Alibaba (how would you know what you are getting exactly), and the US manufacturer I contacted required very a large order. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Depends what you class as a large order. If for a product like that you are unlikely to be using more than say 1lb of material in a couple of years if it works, you might not garner much interest. If the potential offtake is several tonnes, then people suddenly take notice and you become their new best buddy.

Most manufacturers are happy to sample to formulators if they can see a potential sale in it. Failing that you could always try a lab supply house such as Sigma Aldrich if you don’t mind paying an arm, leg and left nut for it

Ack, Sigma aldrich is where I got my domestic quote. It was $200. I guess that might be the best I can do, it’s just an arm and leg, no nut which is lucky since i’m a girl.

Will double back and check for samples from manufacturers first, just found it challenging to track them down. thx for the help!

@erin Well in the worst poss scenario a nut has been saved ;-) n u wud hv to stick to Sigma as I dont think anyone else wud be willing to supply sample sized quantities as commercial.
