hi everyone!! so I’m formulating a hair growth oil but I wanted to know should I put incidents that penetrates the hair shaft such as

    1)   Soybean oil- It is the queen bee when it comes to moisture retention, the lipids in the oil helps hair treatments to absorb better into your hair. A non-greasy carrier oil that will improve moisture retention and shine. etc

    this is my ingredient list

    1. horsetail oil
    2. linseed oil
    3. jojoba oil
    4. sunflower oil
    5. evening primrose oil
    6. apricot kernel oil
    7. wheat germ oil
    8. carrot seed oil
    9. hempseed oil
    10. red palm oil
    11. broccoli seed oil (im not sure if im going to use this one)
    12. cocount oil
    13. saw palmeto oil
    14. cantor oil
    15. safflower oil
    16. capsicum annum
    17. sesame oil
    18. neem oil
    19. basil oil
    20. essential oil blend
    21. pumpkin seed oil

@Perry what do you think about this ingredient list for my growth oil?? and also should I add oils that penetrate the hair shaft???

Hair Growth is an OTC Product. While there may be anecdotal claims on the individual ingredients, it would be an unapproved drug. As many will counter with, “but it works”, that is still not acceptable to the FDA.

I think the only proven ingredient for hair grow is Minoxidil.

In my opinion, no oil can help with grow.
I even read an articles talking about silicones in hair care products and it said, that silicone prevents water loss too well, that in the end the hair follicle swells and dies.

Wow! Could you by chance send me a link to that article? Thank you!

Silicones do not cause hair follicles to swell and die.

Thank you @Perry for your opinion and sorry for sharing these misinformation. However, I remember it wasn’t from any mommy blogs or so. That is why it stuck in my head. I know silicones are perfectly fine for face and body, but about hair I don’t know much yet. So good to know! :)

PS. I think you would want to use silicones for the hair length, not for the roots anyway, right? :)

@Perry how about petrolatum for hair?

@Abdullah - petrolatum has been used in hair products for multiple decades. There is no evidence (I could find) that it causes any hair loss.

@Paprik - I’ve done a search on Google scholar and reviewed as many relevant papers as I could & found no study showing silicones had anything to do with hair loss. In fact, I found a couple that recommended using silicones as a way to prevent negative aspects of hair loss.

    @Perry thanks
What is the purpose of using petrolatum in hair products?

Is it used in hair or scalp?

It is for styling hair. It gives the “slick” look. We used it in VO5 Hairdressing. It was not meant fir the scalp

Those natural oils may help with hair loss if you eat them.

I see capsicum so be careful with it.

If you are interested in hair growth, check out Replicel, a Canadian company. They have a partnership with Shiseido in Asia.
