Hi me serum with ingredients below got some problems,
    1. after 2 months, some white unknown particle form inside the serum (forgot to keep the picture)
    2. after 1 year some unknown gel-like particle form inside.

    Ingredients:

    VP-18
    (5%)
    Niacinamide
    Licorice
    Water
    Eumulgin CO 40 (80%)
    Part B
Active Complex (provide by customer, I don’t know what is this.)
    Aloe Vera Extract
    Avocado Exract
    Part C
    KEM CP

    Why and what is this?

@twokchu It’s just an idea, but those extracts can ovewhelm your preservative system at high doses, and some bacteria could degrade your gelling agent.

    @ketchito
Thanks, it is a flowable liquid, the unknown gel-like appeal after 1 year, is it possible that bacteria will cause the forming of this? Is anybody experiencing this kind of bacteria infection, I know some bacterial infection may cause bubbles, sour smell….

@twokchu Another option is that the gelling agent is becoming less hydrophilic. This can happen when for instance, there are divalent ions like Ca2+ or Mg2+, which make polymer chains to coil and not let water in. Maybe the super secret “Active complex” has some of it.

Yes, microbial contamination. Have you done a preservative efficacy test or a contamination test?

@ketchito, @Perry Thanks, Thanks, It is my customer formulas, so I just ran a microbial contamination test right after production completed. No microbial found in the test. Afterward, No other test

@twokchu - you should run a contamination test on the old samples and see if they are contaminated now. I would guess this is a microbial contamination issue.

Try doing a preservative challenge test rather than just a contamination test -this will check that your preservative system is fit for purpose.

15% - Is there a possibility there’re cyclodextrin or gelling agents in there?

It is just a brown color liquid. I don’t have the ingredient list of the product, but I guess is a blending of some extract or some active ingredients like Dynalift from Croda. They pour it into a glass bottle with no label.
O the other hand, they bought the Serum base from japan and mixed with the thing i make using the ingredients state above, like 37 active : 63 base.
