    Hi Everyone!

I am re-evaluating the chelates used in my soap formulas.

I have been using a combination of EDTA, tetrasodium etidronate and pentasodium pentetate at an approx. range of 0.25%

Depending on the chelate used, I assume the ranges would vary to achieve the same level of performance.

I have been searching the web for literature stating recommended ranges for chelates without much success, perhaps my searching choices are not the right ones, which is why I am turning to you for advice :)

Anyone has a source with recommended ranges for the following chelates in soap formulations:

    -Sodium Citrate
    -Tetrasodium Glutamate
    -EDTA
    -CItric Acid

    Thank you!

to be more specific… can I get away with using sodium citrate at 2% in my soap formulas? I have been using it at 0.25 and it does nothing. A colleague mentioned that in detergents it’s used at up to 9%. I did some trials and at 2% its working good… don’t seem to have affected anything else yet… can I get away with this?

Since I have no idea what is in your ‘soap’ I can’t comment.

I am new to the forum!
I should have included a breakdown of my formula, sorry about that
My formulas are very simple and look something like this in general terms:

    Sodium palm kernelate base 96%
    titanium dioxide 0.5%
    frag 1%
    emollients 2%

my base already has chelate @ approx. 0.15% (etidronate and EDTA)

is there a recommended chelate range in general for soap products?
