  • Reduce sticky feeling in hydroxyethylcellulose gel

    Hi friends!

I’ve been playing around with hydroxyethylcellulose (HEC) and I’m obsessed with the clarity it has in a water based gel. I do find it a bit sticky for my liking. Has anyone experienced this and if so what would you suggest using to reduce the sticky feel but still keep the clarity?

    Thanks!

What else are you adding to the formulation?

This is just water and HEC, so 1% HEC in water.

Dimethiconol might do the trick. (water soluble silicone)
    Maybe Propylene Glycol would help
    Or some emollients.
It really depends on what else is in your formula.

I’m not sure what end product you are making but if it is just water and HEC could you be mistaking the high viscosity for stickiness?
