  • Question about a Korean product

Recently purchased a bottle of this ‘Pyunkang Yul’ Essence toner off iHerb. Been using it, not seeing much effect except it provides decent hydration.

Below is the product ingredient list:
    Astragalus Membranaceus Root Extract,
    1,2-Hexanediol, Butylene Glycol,
    Bis-Peg-18 Methyl Ether Dimethyl Silane,
    Hydroxyethylcellulose, Carbomer, Arginine

I do not see any aqua/water? How is it a watery essence toner without water?

Also, how would you define an ‘essence toner’..

    Thanks all!

The Korean formulators like to do it this way but it’s mainly the Astragalus that is the water since it’s likely a Astragalus water but they had called / registered it as an extract.

Perhaps in terms of “essence” wise, it’s normally a water product that has a high percentage of an extract or filtrate, though normally filtrate like ferments. An “essence” can be used in the toner / essence step in the Korean multi step routine.

The “Astralagus extract” is likely 90-95% water and 5-10% Astragalus. They get away with it because it’s an “extract complex.” And then they get to advertise the product as water free. LOL.

I would guess only 1% Astragalus (and maybe not even astragalus).  In truth, you wouldn’t really have any way to distinguish this from brown water.
