    Hi All:

Can anyone provide any guidance on the pro-oxidation of vitamins and oils in formulations?  I vaguely remember a vendor talk to me about it a year ago but can’t remember the vendor or company.  After hours of scrolling the net I have come up with very little info.  What I do remember is that use of higher concentrations of vitamins can somehow start a pro-oxidation reaction and therefore destabilize the entire batch.  If anyone has any pointers or can direct me in the right area to research that’d be great!

There are a few reports showing that alpha-tocopherol can act as a pro-oxidant at higher concentrations. What ‘higher’ concentrations mean, differ between publications.

I saw 0.1%, 0.2% and 0.5% in different sources. I saw 0.5% in L’Oreal’s patent of C,E Ferulic. I personally stick to 0.1% to be conservative. Or just use BHT.
