  Preservative for anhydrous products?

  What would be a good preservative for an anhydrous product like a lip balm? I know its not entirely necessary but I would feel better if I added one. 

  I’m thinking an oil-soluble preservative won’t be great as it won’t be active if water is introduced. Also wanted to avoid turning it into an emulsion.

  Any recommendations?

  I haven’t used this preservative before but I was looking at it when making a shower oil:

  Suprapein® - 8570 / Plantaserv S:

  INCI: “Origanum Vulgare Leaf Extract (and) Thymus Vulgaris (Thyme) Flower/Leaf Extract (and) Cinnamomum Zeylanicum Bark Extract (and) Olea Europaea (Olive) Leaf Extract (and) Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract (and) Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Leaf Extract”

  Claims to be broad-spectrum, to be used in oil based formulas that might incidentally come into contact with water.

  Perhaps others might have some more insight if they have any experience with it.

  Suggest you save your money.  “Broad spectrum” is a marketing claim for preservatives - you’ll be hard pressed to find any that don;t inlcude this boiler plate.  For the other claim - ask for data, AND ask for data showing consistent chemical composition to spec for each batch.

  you could use Euxyl PE 9010 or blend of Parabens
