  • Precipitation of some components of CAPB

This is Cocamidopropyl betaine from a local supplier with low price. As you can see some materials has precipitated at the bottom of the bottle.

This is the first time i have seen something like this.

    My questions are:

    1. Is it normal for components of CAPB to precipitate?

    2. What components can it be that has precipitated?

    3. What causes such precipitations?

    4. Should we mix it before use or just use it or not use such Product?

What concentration is the material in water? I think CAPB is most commonly supplied at 28-30% active, and everything has a limit of solubility, so if the product has been stored at lower temperatures some precipitation is likely. Try heating gently with stirring and seeing if the precipitate dissolves.

I don’t think precipitation is your biggest worry here; I have never seen CAPB which looks anything other than a very, very pale straw yellow in colour. I think there are a lot of impurities in there and would be very cautious that it is safe for use in your application. You may want to run some testing to double check.
