  • Polyglyceryl-10 Stearate: From I never heard of you…to feeling like an algorithm.

Honestly, a few weeks ago, I had never heard of polyglyceryl-10 stearate.  But after chasing a few rabbits down their respective holes, I am starting to feel like a Google algorithm keeps throwing this in my face.

I first came across it, when the marketing folks at Lonza touted it as the perfect pairing (co-emulsifier) for the PG-6-DS I was playing with.  Granted they sell both, so of course they are going to pair one of their products with another of their products.

I came across it again today…when I was looking for a co-emulsifier that might excel with higher polarity ingredients.  It was again, on a very short list.

So….what am I after?  Anyone with experience using PG-10 Stearate…I would love to hear….what it did for you….or…. why you chose it….what you like about it….what you hate about it.  What does adding it to a formula do to haptics….you know….anything of value on the topic.

Are there any other…more common monoesters, that will do the job just as well?  I was looking to pair 165 up with a co-emulsifier…that would excel with some of the high polarity esters I love to play with.  (Still also playing with PG-6-DS as well, in a different context.)

    Aloha.

    @chemicalmatt

PS: While on the topic….and for bonus points…. What common emulsifiers would you categorize as…. working well with high polarity emollients?

The Thai place has it, along with PG-10 isostearate and oleate if you want a liquid version and a bunch of other PG-10 esters too.
Can’t remember having them seen there last time I placed an order…
I suppose, of all the polyglyceryl esters, the 10 comes closest to 165?

Yes…I’ve had it in my cart…and dumped it twice…due to high cost. :)  I think only one company mfg’s it….so they can ask…whatever they want.

I didn’t like it just because PG6DS works better alone or with GMS.

Are you purchasing from thai and ship it to us?

If yes why don’t you purchase from china?

I know a supplier who produces all mono and polyglyceryls

Define that please….. ‘works better‘?  Is that a reference to better haptics….or a reference to stability?

I don’t know if you are making products for your self or for sale.

I didn’t notice any difference with PG6DS alone or 1:1 with  PG10S @1% emulsifier in stability or haptic because they are both stable and i am not good at noticing every haptic differences but i didn’t like it because it is a one big chunk emulsifier and ingredients like this take a lot of time and are very difficult to melt specially in large production batches.

This is a picture of how the sample i had received looks.

I like PG6DS more than any of them and i have used a lot of polyglyceryls.

I think that is reason enough…to get it from the Thai place… It looks a little more manageable! :)

You can ask them before purchasing if the product really looks like that.
