  • p-chloro-m-xylenol as preservative?

    Hello!

I hope those more experienced can help me with this. I have been checking the forum and reading about preservatives and have checked out the reviews on Making Skincare, which made me realize how inefficient Optiphen plus is for aqueous systems.

I am looking at preservatives that are effective in systems that are largely comprised of water or hydrosols and may be serums or surfactant containing, so meaning some are wash off and some are not. Also, botanical extracts are used. Of course, parabens are frowned upon unfortunately.
Would p-chloro-m-xylenol work as a preservative? Or is it typically thought of as only a replacement for triclosan? How is formulating with it?
    Thank you in advance!
