  Organic or Natural?

  How are you?  In which market is there a better opportunity for success right now?

  Natural Skincare and Cosmetics

  or Organic skincare and cosmetics?

  In the US, anything “organic” has to be “certified organic” by USDA regulations. Doing this doubles or triples the costs of manufacturing + raw materials. I don’t think anyone’s making much money going that route.

  You’ll find a lot of companies go with the “made with 70 percent certified organic ingredients” or just denote specific ingredients on the ingredient list as “certified organic”. That way you get around the hefty manufacturing price increases necessary to certify products as “organic” according to USDA regulations.

  I’ve not seen any evidence that most consumers know that there is a difference between “organic” and “natural” cosmetics.  So, go the natural route, it’s much easier to produce products.  Aveeno calls itself natural and is purely a greenwashing effort.
