  • Newbie Question - Am I on the right track?

I am a diyer. I made a 60 (oil - all liquid):40 (water and humectants) lip moisturiser with Soy Lecithin (3%) as emulsifier. It seemed to work until the following day when it separated. OK, go back to the drawing board. However my mother used it and absolutely loves it as a general face moisturiser. (We have a lot of allergy issues - hence the DIY) She actually would be happy with the formula that separates, but I am not. She didn’t like my second version which incorporated shea butter, cera bellina and reduced water.

My next thoughts are to take the original recipe, increase the Lecithin to 4% and add 1% cetyl alcohol as a emulsifier booster. Am I on the right track?

I have limited easy access to supplies, only one local supplier that I am aware of offers alternatives to “clean beauty” ingredients. I chose Lecithin as the main emulsifier as I know it is lip safe and that was the original aim.

To get any specific help you will need to supply the whole formula with percentages.

Are you trying to make a water in oil emulsion?
