Hi everyone! I hope everyone is doing well today.
To all the indie  makers like me here; when you first started did you work on your mission and vision statement? Or do you first experiement and let the market guide you? I was told since i want to do both b2b and B2c i need to have a mission and vision because if i want to speak to drug stores i need to tell them who we are and if i want to do B2C i need to have a mission that ill talk about in my social media content strategy. The point is il struggling with that.Im trying to ask myself why did i embark on this cosmetic journey and all i know is MY ATTENTION TO DETAIL as you probably all have noticed now; im a detail freak. Is this a mission? NO can i make a mission out of it; i dont know!!
I was also thinking about the fact that i want people to think that beaing beaitufll doesnt have to entail lot of stress and money. They can own basic product that will cleanse and moisturise and yet be beautiful. The idea is show your true skin,; embrace your flaws because this is what makes you unique and beinfg unique is being beautiful.Do you want to look like everyone? Or do you want to look your BEST VERSION?

    Can you kindly guide me

    Hey guys

Can i add this to the mission statement

Bceause i love you( my customers) i dont care about how long it takes me to develop a product; i care about providing the right product for your specific concern  even if it takes me time to source the ingredients from abroad.
So this is all connected to ATTENTION TO DETAILS
Another point i want to emphasise is that through this brand i want people to focus on the most important and cut down on the superluous; meanins you dont need to look perfect to be beautiful for Beauty is a regular process that entails using products that you need on a regular basis to get results.
I m just scared people when they read this end up saying: Meh nothing special! Again Rihana in her Fenty Skin knew how to craft a compelling story and i read that Fenty was not the only brand to come up with many shqdes of foudnation; she just knew HOW TO SELL HER CONCEPT; and this is what im striving her.
    What do you think?

    I’d suggest you read this.
    https://www.fond.co/blog/best-mission-statements/

One thing you will notice is that (with the exception of 1) none of the mission statements use personal pronouns. The mission should be something beyond yourself. Consider the TED mission statement… “To spread ideas”  They don’t say “We want to spread ideas”.  The first version is something that can apply to everyone. So your consumers can feel like they are part of the mission. The second version relegates your consumer to be an audience member. At best they can watch to see whether you accomplish your mission.

Your mission statement needs to be more inclusive of both you and your customer. In truth, customers do not really care what you want. They care what they want. ALL of your communication should be in terms of what you consumer wants. (At least in the beginning) They don’t care about you. They care about themselves. So, you would be best served by talking about what they want, not what you want.

    @Ghita37
    Consider - https://panmore.com/procter-gamble-mission-statement-vision-statement-analysis
It can be actionable.  I recall pointing out with effect that specific production with limited micro quality was not consistent with our mission “We will provide branded products and services of superior quality..”

Hey @Perry. Wow lots of missions here.thanks a lot dear. I loved the Paypal mission, its so concise and really summarise the entire story.Im working on my own mission and basically my idea is to connect my mission to  my brand concept. So thanks for clarifying this as i struggled a lot before on my own.

    Hello everyone.

I read many articles on how to write a mission statement and the process is not easy. However lots of people told me to focus on what truly matters and this is GO TO THE MARKET and TEST THE MARKET.I agree wiht them 100% but from what i understood i think that having a mission and vision statement are important as well if you want to sell online becaUSE the audience needs to know who the brand; what its stands for; what is its mission/

Anyway can someone please check my mission and give me some feedback please?

we want to simplify the life of our customers by providing a streamlined approach to skincare focusing only on ingredients that matter.

    Thank you

Also when it comes to the USP i was thinking that having fewer ingredients in the formulation can be a differentiating factor/Do you agree? Lets say i present my brand to a drusgtore and say that what sets me apart is the fact that my products contain fewer ingredients.Would that be a good USP? Now they might wonder: how having fewer ingredients be a USP? And this is why im asking for your feedback please as im stuck and not moving forward.

I dont want to say like everyone products feature natural ingredients or organic; i want to give something else that will sound different and my focus is not of having natural ingredients but on having safe products.Thank you very much

Sounds like a good enough mission to me. But what matters more is what your consumers think.

Thank you Perry. So how can i know what customers think? Also a mission is not about trying to know what customers think or about pleasing them; its about the company and what they are doing, isnt it?

To know what consumers think, you have to ask them. To do that you have to have some way of contacting them. Big companies use market research companies. Small, individual companies can use things like Social Media, Forums, email or person-to-person contact.

Ultimately, things like Mission and Visions Statements are things that companies figure out along the way. They aren’t things that you necessarily start with. And honestly, they probably aren’t important if you don’t already have a business.

You seem to be spending a lot of time on stuff that doesn’t generate revenue or sales.

If you really want to start a business I suggest you do this…

        1. Find / create a product you want to sell.
        2. Sell it.
        3. Repeat.

When you start making sales, then worry about mission statements and visions. Creating a vision or mission statement for a business that doesn’t yet exist or doesn’t have any sales seems like mostly a waste of time to me. It’s not necessarily a bad thing to do. But if it is preventing you from actually trying to make sales, then it is hindering your business more than it is helping.

Thanks Perry. bUT where im stuck the most is this: if i want to sell i need to have a brand no? and to have a brand i need to have a page and in the page there must eb a mission vision. If i want to start sellling online the audience needs to know who is the brand.I fully agree wiht you but we dont sell in a vaccum.Thats the part im stuck the most with and dont seem to be moving forward 🙁

You already wrote a mission statement above. Go with that. Then change it as needed.
