  • Looking for a supplier or manufacturer to make my body cream

    Hello all,
    This is Sophie from Houston.
I do not have any background in chemistry or cosmetics but I have always been interested in skincare products, I did a lot of research about safe skincare etc and it inspired me to want to create my own products.
So I created a formula and ready to produce a line, came up with a design and marketing plan. but when it comes to making the product itself, it seems confusing where and how to get the supplies for all the ingredients I need especially certain kinds such as Cetiol CC which I can’t get on my own even though I have an LLC.
    So my questions are:
    - Beside UL prospector (never seemed to approved my account), who else can I try that provides the biggest supplies?

    - Is there anyone here who can manufacture my product according to my formula?

    I appreciate any help.

    Best regards,
    Sophie

You don’t want to approach suppliers and manufacture yourself as a small business (economies of scale). You need a manufacturer that would do it for you. Also, have you run all required tests? Is your formula stable and safe for a consumer?
Regarding ULprospector, they won’t approve your account until you show them an invoice as a proof that your business is active.

Thank you so much for your advice. I tried contacting a few manufacturers, they probably are too big and they require very large scale which is way above my budget at the moment so I’m looking for some smaller manufacturers who are willing to work with me according to the stage i’m at right now, but it’s hard to find any. That’s why I’m considering doing it myself but I have a lot to learn, I don’t mind if it takes a long time and lots efforts to learn and make it right. Are you able to give some guidances on the tests required? I haven’t done any of that. But I did make a few batches of basic lotion and been testing it on myself and my friends, it’s been working well.
Btw, UL prospector actually just approved my account, but as you mentioned I might not be able to order the ingredients from the suppliers.

You don’t know whether it is working well. It might look ok and then separate in three months, especially in a hot and humid place like Texas. You also don’t know whether your preservation system is adequate for the ingredients you added. The fact there’s no visible mold on the top doesn’t guarantee  it’s safety. You need to run accelerated stability at 40C (assessing change of color, texture, pH) , you need to run preservative efficacy test and preservative challenge test as a minimum. And preferably you should do it in the same packaging in which you are going to sell.
Check the pinned thread, there must be chemists here from your state.
Also might be useful to post your formula here for initial review, so that you know if there are obvious errors before you pay for tests.

You can make a great skin cream yourself with
some cetrimonium (or behentrimonium), petrolatum, dimethicone, cetyl or cetostearyl alcohol, glycerin and water.
They are widely available pretty much everywhere.

It should work and feel great, unless you want to include additional anionic ingredients that would cross react with the cationic cetrimonium or behentrimonium.
