Liquid Hand Soap 101
Good afternoon everyone,
Would you please suggest books and websites where I can find information about liquid hand soap formulation? Nothing very complex, I need to understand the basics of making these type of soaps such as essential ingredients, mixing instructions and etc.

You may want to begin with Allured’s site: https://www.cosmeticsandtoiletries.com/ then begin studying, going from there to the specialty chemical supplier websites that sell surfactants, rheology modifiers, builders, etc.

If you don’t have a chemistry background and you would like an easy way to get introduced to concepts and certain formulations, I recommend http://www.swiftcraftymonkey.com e-books.
I do find some of her formulation are good, but sometimes excessive in terms of expensive ingredients but its a nice intro.

The main things are to use KOH rather than NaOH, and to only use oils or fatty acids that make soluble soap products. For instance, potassium oleate has a solubility of 100mg/mL or 10% in water.
The only soaps that are even moderately soluble at room temperature are potassium laurate, myristate, and oleate, the potassium salt of acids from coconut oil, and the sodium oleate. -
