Lip Smackers… How To Dupe The Flavor/Aroma?
I have a client looking to formulate her own lip balm line, but she wants those strong, long lasting lip balm scents that you’d find in Lip Smackers. She’s working with limited time and budget (wants a batch in time to sell for Christmas)… so basically it should be done already! The flavors she wants are not super complex, but they need to be as close to “just right” as I can get them with the time I have… which isn’t much.
I was thinking it might be easier to purchase some pre-made scents, but I’m not sure any of the hobbyist brands are going to have the same effect as Lip Smackers or hold up the same over time? Any suggestions on good options or places to buy from in your experiences?
I am open to formulating the scents from scratch if that’s a better choice, but I don’t have a lot of experience with scent formulation. I’m a newbie chemist, spent my first 4 years formulating for brands has been “dermatologist” approved skincare, so scent isn’t something I’ve messed with a whole lot, nor do I have a lot of the base chemicals on hand. I probably know just enough to be dangerous (as they say). I can definitely buy whatever is needed, but I need to know that I can 100% get the results she’s looking for since again, time is limited.
P.S she is aware that time is limited and we probably won’t be able to do a lot of samples etc to actually get a batch done and to her in the next week or two, but I still want to deliver the best I can!

Personally, I’d give this opportunity a miss. I’m all about producing quality, and products that escape the ordinary, and with these time constraints, it would be impossible. And saying “no” as a professional formulator is not an issue for me if it preserves my good reputation.

Even if you deliver before Christmas, how can she sell before Christmas 🤔 so, if you want the job, you can do it (i assume you already have the formulas and all, you only need the flavors, i don’t think you can customize now though) but i don’t think she can sell for the Holidays.
