  • Isoamyl Laurate vs Dodecane

I have fallen in love with Isoamyl Laurate, but am having trouble sourcing it.  (Meaning price/quantity/shipping to the middle of the Pacific.)
One of my suppliers has Dodecane inbound, which will be easy for my to purchase in smaller amounts (a re-packer).

My question is… Would Dodecane be consider an equal emollient (same sensory and spread) to Isoamyl Laurate?  I am trying to build a cascading sensory experience with super spreading and light emollients followed by middle spreading/weight emollients (Ethylhexyl Olivate and Hydrogenated Olive Oil Unsaponifiables), followed by light weight natural oils.

I believe I have accomplished this with the Isoamyl Laurate, but was wondering if I replace it with Dodecane (an easier to acquire ingredient) …will it be perceptibly different or imperceptible?

Note: I already tried replacing the Isoamyl Laurate with Coco-Caprylate/Caprate….and it wasn’t even close!

Would love to hear from anyone whom has worked with both.
