  • I need a benchmark lotion……..

As I am putting the finishing touches on a pretty natural lotion…. I need to compare it with a common industry product that is chalked full of all the unnatural synthetic goodies (Dimethicone, petrolatum, lots of glycerin etc)….  Something good…but not super premium… Meaning the best I think I can buy for under $18 at WalMart (ugh) Target, etc.
Maybe something from Dove, Aveeno, Vaseline or the likes.

Something that has great feel and texture.  Something the industry insiders might think is one step above all the other drugstore lotions.  Maybe something considered the ‘hidden secret’ on the shelf.

I need to know that I can compete with what the discerning shopper is already buying…. And more than just a good story on ingredients and beautiful packaging.

I think a couple of Floratech ingredients and the right fatty alcohol….have gotten me to that point….but I have no idea….which product to grab at Target….to compare my formula with.  (Good synthetic vs my more natural product.)

So while on the topic…. in the ‘Just for Fun’ category…. After you answer the question of best value lotion….. Let’s also hear your opinion on lotions….where price is no object….hehehhe.

Glycerin is “not synthetic”. If from a vegetable source, it’s a byproduct of saponification and probably less synthetic than whatever emulsifiers and fatty alcohols you’re using. Fatty acids need further reactions to get to emulsifiers or alcohols.

I get a feeling that by synthetic you really mean silicone and petroleum derivates. And perhaps no ethoxylated compounds or PEGs? This is what I see most “natural” brands avoid.

Anyway, most people I have talked to that are into skincare like CeraVe. It does have a nice light skin feel.

Thank you for your comment, and yes I was incorrect in lumping glycerin in with the others!

    I will try that one.
