How to dupe the finish of a commercial foundation
The question ultimately is, what gives these foundations their finishes?
I have recently gone down the rabbit hole of making my own cosmetics. I started because I fell in love with the very affordable Wet N Wild Dewy foundation, but I wish it lasted longer, didn’t turn greasy, and not oxidize two shades darker. I assumed it would be moderately easy to create…THOUSANDS of dollars worth of ingredients later, I have learned it’s not easy. Especially if you don’t know the trade names of the ingredients or understand cosmetic chemistry.
I have made hundreds of samples. Mostly trash, but a few of them are good enough for me to wear daily. However, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get a good finish that dries down. The two foundation finishes that I love are :
1. Wet N wild Dewy. I have to mix it with white adjuster pigment, due to oxidation.

2. A little bit more convoluted. 2 pumps of Revlon Illuminance Skin Caring Foundation mixed with 1 pump of Fenty Soft Matte foundation.
I love Revlon’s finish by itself, but the shade range is atrocious. I mix it with Fenty because of the shade match, and it made the finish even better. Like super skin like finish. However, I don’t care for the finish of the fenty foundation by itself. I assumed adding talc to the Revlon formula would work since it’s pretty high up on the Fenty ingredients list, but it didn’t.

could you explain what you mean when you talk about “the finish” of the Product? Is it the skin feeling water resistance the Final color?
Depending on what you mean different ingredients are responsible for each and some overlap.
Could you clarify pleas?

I mean the finish, as in Matte, Natural, Radiant, etc…
