  • How much of these essential oils?

Posted by GabyD on February 9, 2020 at 8:19 am

Hi guys, I am trying to recreate a formula for a product that is being discontinued. I am fine with recreating the base, but it has a very distinctive smell that is a combination of Agonis Fragrans Branch/Leaf Oil and Lavender Oil.  However, I just can’t get the quantities right.  I have tried adding 0.05% and 0.1% of each but it just smells horrible.

I would be really grateful if you clever chaps could have a look at the formula and suggest how much of Fragonia and Lavender to add.  I have posted the whole formula, as it might be more apparent in the context of the other ingredients.

Also, if you see anything in the ingredients that you think might be adding to the distinctive scent, that would also be really helpful.

    Many thanks.

You need to hire a perfumer and give them the benchmark. It isn’t a theoretical exercise

Second this, if you’re serious about it you need an experienced perfumer. The only way that you personally would recreate the same scent is through sheer luck.

Are you in the US? I know a couple but  they usually have ~50lb minimum order which is a lot of fragrance to go through.

Yeah that would be so beyond difficult. There is so much variation between essential oils. For example there is french lavender, bulgarian, linalool content probably varies not only by region but season

Good quality french high altitude lavender is so different from bulgarian that it’s hard to believe they have anything in common.

I suggest you investigate whether your fragonia and lavender oil is of a high quality. If it is, then I am surprised that it does not smell similar to the product you wish to emulate. Don’t forget about the nerolina oil in the list. Also, the fruit extracts possibly impart some fragrance to the blend.
