  Highlighter Backpigment

  Highlighter has pearls that reflect light. It often also has “backpigment” or pigmentation to create a base color (“under” the highlight).

  Can anyone explain why formulations typically include backpigment? Why not make universal shades by excluding backpigment? Pros? Cons?
