I see alot of herbal oils and herbal hair care products on the market. Do these things genuienely have a noticeable effect on the health of hair?

I saw this product marketed to ethnic hair that is basically a tea marketed as a moisturizing spray.ingredients below

” Aqueous infusion of shavegrass leaf, lavender buds, nettle leaf, chamomile flower, and red rose petals; organic flax seeds; organic aloe leaf juice; vegetable glycerin; lavender oil, orange peel oil, grapefruit seed extract; citric acid, and love! Juices&Berries and Frank Juice varieties also include fragrance oil. :o)”

Is this just glorified water? Or could the herbs actually have an added benefit?

Just marketing hype. No effect at all. Hair is a dead substance. The only things that affect it are those that increase its moisture content and those that are film-formers. (Apart from straightening and/or colouring systems of course)

thanks @Belassi i feel like the more i learn about cosmetic chemistry the more i realize that everything i thought i knew about cosmetics is a lie! lol if im being honest with myself I think the only things that really make a difference on my hair are cationic ingredients (in a conditioner) and cleansing ingredients in a shampoo. and an oil for my dry hair. but other than that, I guess everything else is just fluff.

I believe the sensorials are the main thing to get right. The foam volume and density, the flow, the fragrance. I make a premium shampoo so I make it more concentrated than the average, that way the customer soon realises they need to use less, so conferring a ‘better value’ effect.
