Grapefruit Seed Extract (GFSE) as antioxidant/rancidity retardant?
Posted by emma1985 on June 10, 2021 at 5:53 amIs this recommended?
Not a fan of Tocopherol or Rosemary Oleoresin.
To be clear, I know GFSE is sold as a “preservative” sometimes, I would never ever use it as a preservative, only an antioxidant.
Thanks.

https://pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.1021/jf0514064I don’t believe she is asking about the efficacy as a traditional preservative….we all know it does NOT perform well in that arena. I believe she is asking about the performance as an oil preservative (antioxidant).
If it is effective in that area….it has a lighter color and different scent profile that the aforementioned items…and therefore might have an advantage in certain situations.
Any good as a oil preservative?

This is not about performance but an adulterated product. Even without that considertion, it’s hardly reasonable to assume the supplier salted the mine only for ONLY for its antimicrobial efficacy.

Thanks for the feedback, I’m waiting on a CoA from the supplier. I have to wait for the actual delivery to provide batch number to obtain CoA.

What supplier? And who is their supplier?
Suggest you inquire as to their response to reports from Japan, US dpt ag. and Europe that the stuff has been amended with commercial disinfectants, triclosan and parabens.
“Suppliers”were responsible so asking suppliers for data as CoA may not bring the best information. As microfomulation implied - why not use an ingredient with a clean record?

Please be aware - even if one takes supplier as truthful - this stuff is not “natural” but a chemical derivative of the claimed extract.
