Glyceryl/Polyglyceryl-6 Isostearate/Behenate Esters substitute?
I have a sample of the above material (trade name VL-212). I’m working on some lip gloss formulations (the kinds that come in a squeeze tube, like Aquaphor lip treatment, etc) and in parallel trying to make a vaseline-type salve cause the consistency of my trial batches sometimes gets really close to petrolatum, so I figured why not kill 2 birds with 1 stone.
Anyway, for cost effectiveness I’d like to substitute it for something else that’s a bit easier to find. Currently the formula contains a veg-derived ozokerite wax substitute, castor oil, diisostearyl malate, and some oils and emollient esters in various proportions; I’m still working on it so everything is up in the air at the moment. (would rather not post the whole formula). I noticed that VL-212 mitigates the tackiness of the formula, and when I omitted the material entirely and substituted w/ more of the veg ozokerite, it got really sticky and would take forever to spread into the skin, though DISM is a sticky material and I’m not against changing that to something else, either, but changing VL-212 is my priority.VL-212 looks like vegetable shortening at RT, so my (uneducated) guess is that another material with a similar consistency would solve my problem, I’m just not sure what that would be. The only caveat is that it has to be safe for lip products. Thank you and merry Christmas! -

The VL-212 is a Japanese material (http://www.sy-kogyo.co.jp/english/sei/1_s.html) I’ve never even heard of it before, and without any technical information on it, I can’t suggest a substitute.This is the only other info I could find:
