Gentle SLS Free Toothpaste
Hey there,
I am working on my very first toothpaste. I have a set ingredient list (making a comparable to Rembrandt Gentle Whitening Toothpaste) and I am failing to create a creamy paste. It keeps turning more into a gel. Can someone please help? Here is my formulation thus far for the base:Water 6.10%Sorbitol 70% Solution 57.65%PVP K-90 3.00%Titanium Dioxide 0.50%Cellulose gum 1.00%Glycerin 5.00%Inactive Ingredient List for the toothpaste is: water, hydrated silica, glycerin, sorbitol, flaovr, titanium dioxide, cellulose gum, PVP, sodium saccharin, sucralose -

which silica are you using?

zeodent 116 for gentle cleansing

Since that’s a Huber silica, their technical service department will help you with your formulation.
Also, this patent has a couple of formulations: http://www.google.sc/patents/EP1313439A4?cl=en -
you need to use another (non-abrasive) grade of silica alongside your Zeodent 116 to thicken your formula and give it the right rheology
if you want to stick with the same supplier, it looks like Zeodent 153, 163 or 165 would be suitable:
in my experience, thickening silicas have very low density and generate a lot of airborne dust, so take care when handling them!
