  Enhancing Penetration: solvents and solubilizers

  Please help me learn about the particularly good solvents/solubilizers we can use to enhance penetration:

  • Water
  • Ethanol
  • Propylene Glycol
  • Dimethyl Isosorbide
  • Polysorbate 80
  • DMSO/dimethylsulphoxide (unsafe)
  • Sodium lauryl sulfate

  Tell me about your preferred solvent/solubilizer or penetration enhancer and why.

  I’ve been using propylene glycol at 1% in creams and lotions for penetration enhancement purposes for 3 years now.

  PS: am not a professional formulator but my research led that.
