O/W emulsion in glass jar in 45C oven looks uniform except small amount of water or clear liquid on top. Any chance this could be condensation or something other than that emulsion is unstable? It just is not separating like other unstable emulsions I have seen before. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Yes, that could be water condensation.  Did you do a Freeze/Thaw test?  This involves freezing a sample 24hrs, thawing for 24 hrs, heating for 24 hrs, then letting equilibrate to RT and taking pH/viscosity readings.  If it doesn’t separate through 2 or 3 of these cycles it’s probably just condensation.

Thanks, Perry. Could it still be condensation if sample was RT before going into oven? It was a cold process emulsion. I’ll try the F/T test. Good idea.

Yeah, that could still be condensation.
