i have been asked to make a “gel cream” that will tighten and dry down fast and have a cracking texture. Is this possible? I can’t use alcohol and even PVA is frowned on but I am using it some experiments. I have been using PVP k-90. Does anybody have any suggestions of what products to use? I have try using gums for structure which makes it lump and kaolin. Just not getting the texture. Not sure of what other raw materials may be available.

Yow! This is a tough one, especially without ethanol. In that case you’d add Amphomer acrylic terpolymer and under-neutralize it so it would flake of when dry (crackle maybe?) I cannot understand why this would be attractive to any personal care product consumer either. Good luck my friend.

thank you for the reply. i am trying to perfect a formula that has these features and doesn’t use alcohol and crackles when dry. carbomers have been hard to use and gums retain water so it doesn’t dry fast. what about using high percentages of the PVA and PVP? Please look my formula:

    Water-69.5%

    PVA-10%

    Bentonite -5%

    Gel White XR-H-6%

    Dextrin 15-4%

    Bentone EW-2%

    Sodium PCA-0.5%

    Glycerin-0.5%

    Preservative-1.5%

    Colorants-1%

    Any suggestions?
