The dimethicone has a wide range of molecular weight, from low (0.65 cst) to high (30,000 cst, for examples). Is there any relationship between the molecular weight and the volatility of dimethicone? And can I add the dimethicone to my cream/ lipstick at the temperature of 80 degree C?
    Thank you in advance

They stopped being called “Dimethicone” below 1.5 and are volatile. You can safely use Dimethicone 5 and above in the heated oil phase.
    You should avoid heating:
    - Cyclomethicones (D4, D5, D6)
    - Phenyl Trimethicone
    - Dimethicones below 1.5 (I think 0.65 is called Disiloxane)
Not silicones but also shouldn’t be heated:
    - Isododecane
    - Cetiol Ultimate (Undecane, Tridecane)

Dimethicone 5, 100, 350, 500 and 1000 are quite useable. 1.5 is used in makeup, but I am not sure if it’s used in emulsions.

5cs and above that is not volatile. Below 5 is volatile.

By the way, which book is this?

You sure? I’m studying with IPCS and there is nothing like this. Unless it is some kind of old version? But we have nothing like this there. (I have already done lipids). [Which kinda sucks, haha. This looks gooood]

@jemolian can we purchase this book alone or we should purchase their whole program to get the book?

@Abdullah they do have quite many modules and structured formats for different formulas as different files. Will recommend dropping them an email to about about the book though, I believe they can be purchased separately. There should be info on their site on the ones available.
