  • Customers waing to buy my formulation details - most common format?

I have recently had a few requests from our Private Label customers to buy some of my formulations.

In what format are formulations usually sold?

We have our Batch Manufacturing Records for each product, is there another format more suitable for the sale of formulations?

Our clients own their Formulas as part of our fees, so this rarely occurs. However, we routinely send their Formulations (IP) directly to their manufacturer, a similar task. We include; INCI Name, Trade Name (with part numbers, and item#’s), wt/wt percentages, Suppliers Name (and hyperlink), all SDSs/TDSs/MSDS for the materials, manufacturing processes, the final product CofA, and all testing results. We use an Excel Spreadsheet that has evolved dramatically over the past 20 years and has never gotten pushback from a manufacturer.

In our anecdotal experience, we have found that some Contract Manufacturers will look for opportunities to discount/cancel the Formula for various reasons so that they can bill out a new Formulation or make changes, creating new CM-owned IP. So be complete and over document if anything.

Thanks for this. It’s good information to know.
