• Cosmetic Lab Testing

Hello, I am a full time pro makeup artist, not a chemist or have no knowledge of chemistry. But I am willing to learn basics to understand what I need to do. There’s a product I have been searching for some time and finally found and ordered it from China. I have been testing on myself and love it. Its something that isn’t in the market here yet and it’s newer trend. Before I go any further with this, I would like to test this product in a lab to assure it is safe. Would I search Cosmetic Labs? Where can I test and find out if ingredients in the product are truly safe? Any advise would be greatly appreciated. I am not a chemist and would appreciate guidance on how to start the process of product testing for safety.

The main two tests you could start with are Total plate count (USP or AOAC methods are well known and trusted), and heavy metal content. Most analytical labs will be able to do these test no problem and tests themselves don’t take more than 2-5 days. A google search for those tests + ‘cosmetic testing lab’ should give you plenty of options

Here’s a lab I’ve used https://www.npal.com/services ( just check that the whatever lab you choose has some accreditation such as ISO)
