  • Cetyl vs Stearyl alcohol ratios in emulsifiers containing Cetearyl alcohol.

Many emulsifiers contain cetearyl alcohol.  I know that cetearyl alcohol comes in several ratios…commonly 70/30, 50/50, and 30/70.

When one sees a combination emulsifier with cetearyl alcohol….can one assume one of those ratios?  Or can one even assume….one ratio is the most popular….. or….it is the wild wild west…anything goes…including something different than those ratios.

Well, you can guess my intent….I am trying to assemble my own emulsifier… So if one were to choose something with stability in mind….which ratio would one pick?  Can I get best haptics…and stability….with the same pick? :)

Project is an emulsified cream deo….so would prefer the choice that gives the best dry feeling.  (That being said…I might just pick….’None of the above’…and choose behenyl.

SIDE BAR…. OFF TOPIC… Sometimes I see one of my favorite ingredients… Cetyl palmitate as part of an emulsifier… What purpose does this serve… is it simply haptics?  Or something very functional?
