  • Can silicones be emulsified in ethyl alcohol for a hairspray?

I first tried making a silicone in water emulsion, and then dissolving that in alcohol+PVP

    Silicone in water emulsion:
    85% water
0.4% methylparaben (will later replace with methyl+propyl parabens)
heat water and stirr to dissolve
    7% BTMS-50
pour BTMS in hot water, stirr to dissolve for 10 minutes
    7% silicone blend (15% dimethiconol, 85% cyclopentasiloxane)
allow to cool off, pour silicone in cool mix, homogenize
    water qs to 100%

    96% ethyl alcohol (95% pure)
    0.4% methylparaben
    3% PVP K-30
    alcohol qs to 100%
    gently stir

    Then poured 95% alcohol+PVP+paraben mix
    5% silicone-BTMS emulsion in water
pour in a bottle, stir and swirl closed bottle to dissolve (no way I would use the electric homogenizer with flammable alcohol)

Most of it has dissolved, but some floaters remain
I’ll leave it overnight to see if it gets any better.
I may well filter the floaters off
but I wanted to know if silicones can be emulsified in mostly pure alcohol.

So far, everything seems to have properly dissolved overnight
I still filtered it, just in case.

The next time, I will try to make to make the silicones-in-water phase with twice as much silicones to see if it holds
    7% BTMS-50
    14%  silicone blend.

By adding BTMS+silicones it’s Refractive index has sharply increased over that of alcohol+PVP alone

makes a nice magnifying glass effect in the clear PET pump spray bottle.
