  • Calcined vs colloidal kaolin in clay mask

    Hi all,

I’ve been trying to knock off one of Glamglow’s mud mask (see IL below). This mask is basically water, kaolin and magnesium aluminum silicate. So far I’ve been able to make this mask dry down pretty quickly by using 2.5% Mg Al Silicate and 40% kaolin without causing any stinginess or irritation; however, the way my formula dries down is very different from the Glamglow mask. Mine leaves a very “plastic” almost peelable film, while Glamglow’s leaves a very rough, cracked film that can only be removed with water.
I’ve been playing around with the %’s of the ingredients with no success. Does anybody here have any experience working with calcined kaolin? I’m using colloidal kaolin in my formula. I wanted to know if this might be the reason since I don’t have any available to experiment with it right away.
    Thanks in advance

Your mask has far more desirable characteristics from your description!

Calcined kaolin! That is used as a form of green cement. Literally. To make buildings. I would be worried about the “Mount Rushmore Effect”.

I actually started digging into the calcined kaolin thing since Brenntag mentions these are good for absorbing oil and perspiration….the ones we have at work are only colloidal

I will try to speak to a representative next week.

I guess without the activator you might get away without having your face set in concrete!
