  • Any thought on thickening Sodium Cocoyl Glycinate?

    Hi Everyone,

Just see if I can get lucky to get any twinkle from here. I am trying to develop a body wash formula with Sodium Cocoyl Glycinate as the primary surfactant. However, I didn’t get much luck in thickening it up. I have tried the following thickener that works: HEC, Xanthan Gum, PEG-XYZ OPQ, and Ultrez-20.

However, I never found any co-surfactant that can thicken up this surfactant. I noticed that using an extra thickener will decrease the spreadability of the formula.

So, I am trying to put my question here to see if any professional can help with a Co-surfactant can work, or any thickener will provide shear-thinning properties for surfactant.

P.S The formula I tried has the following ingredients (Not organized in order): Sodium Cocoyl Glycinate, Lauric Acid, Myristic Acid, Sodium Cocoyl Alaninate, Water, NANAEDTA, Cocamidopropyl Betain, preservative, Glyceryl Oleate, Xanthan Gum.

    Thanks.

How about Sorbithix L-100? Works great for me at just 1.5-2%

Aculyn 22 or Aqua SF-1 might work

I really wish there was a place to get aqua sf-1/sf-2 in small quantities. All the suspending fun I’m missing out on…

@ShawnL9022 If you want a co-surfactant that increases viscosity without adding a thickening polymer, and since you have CAPB in your formula, you cound increase CAPB and add a non-ionic surfactant of the amide type, such as Cocamide MIPA or MEA, which will have a synergy effect when added to a formula that has CAPB.

@georgebenson I recently ordered a bunch of ingredients from MySkinRecipes.com and they have aqua sf-1, that’s actually how I came across their site because I have been searching for aqua sf-1 for quite awhile. They have all sorts of ingredients that I can’t find at any other diy sites. You can also do custom amounts and there is a lot of helpful information on every ingredient and they will list other ingredients that are similar. I am not sure if they ship to every country, but they ship to the US and they are located in Thailand. I originally thought shipping was free, but it’s not they will send you a quote for shipping them you can either move forward with your order or cancel. Everything was packaged really well and didn’t take too long to arrive.
