I’ve heard from top sellers that Amazon can dupe your product if it is high selling and essentially own your handmade creations. What are the chances that they could dupe products like conditioner bars? Would they more or less try to rank their version of your bar first? Or do they actually have a method of duping your product and aesthetic to market as the OG product? I’ve heard some horror stories that people no longer owned their own product?

It’s pretty common for competitors to take inspiration from other top selling products. An example from my own industry, toothpaste, I have seen this many times.

For example, HiSmile starts selling expensive, but interestingly flavoured toothpaste (fruit flavours, chupa chup flavour etc) where everyone else is pretty much sticking to the usual mint flavour.

HiSmile is clearly selling very well and starts taking market share, so competitors who previously hadn’t considered that not all people want mint flavour decide to jump onto the bandwagon - and start selling their own fruit flavoured toothpaste.

The reality is, the people buying the original often prefer to stick with the original. It is often the casual purchaser who buys the ‘inspired’ product.

I’m not sure what to make of the reports that Amazon themselves dupe products. I get that everyone copies everyone else. Someone duped my exact same recipe of a top seller and made it better lol but at least it was another small seller and they don’t have the legal resources to do what amazon does.
