Allantoin and Urea….and advantage of increasing Allantoin…if any?
A rainy day in the rain forest, so trying a new hack…of reading every comment @chemicalmatt has ever made…on any topic….YUP….44 pages! 🙂
So I came across several times (in Matt’s comments)….Urea enhances the ability of allantoin to go into solution. So, I use the standard formula…of using .5% of the water phase as my allantoin inclusion rate. This leads me to two questions.
1) Is there any research that would indicates there is a benefit of allantoin at higher rates than what I am using?
2) I do not use the form of Urea that I am sure Matt was referencing. However I do use Hydroxyethyl Urea (aka: Hydrovance). Will this also increase the amount of allantoin that will go in to solution?
Bonus question: 3) I had also heard (I think….might be confusing this with Salicylic acid ) that betaine also helps in this regard. Is this correct…and if so, what would be the most effective? I use betaine in all formulas, and use Hydrovance in very limited number of formulas.
Aloha.
