• Advice for new buisiness?

Posted by Anonymous on December 6, 2016 at 7:37 pm

I have been formulating and making eyeshadows for quite a while now and I am planning to start my own business. I was just wondering if anyone had any advice about starting my own makeup line, or things that I should know.

You’re entering a market with enormous competition. Don’t underestimate the marketing spend required to be even visible. I take it you have already acquired the brand name and dot.com domain?

@Belassi makes a good point, and having started a business and now running since 2006 I would also suggest that you have a good look at your branding and brand message. If you are going to be noticed, it is important to differentiate your brand in this very crowded  marketplace.

@binny: Those products are dominated by big companies who enjoy advantages of bulk purchasing. Are you sure you can compete? Will you be able to sell a pump bottle of hand wash complete with label, for less than a dollar? Because that’s what it will take.

Yes sir, as those big companies are not completey able to full fill the indian market they are only covering only 40% of the indian market . so please help me out with the best formula for making the handsanitizer and hand wash.Though it is a challenging task but i will make it.

The easiest thing in the first instance would be to obtain a bottle of each of the brands you are trying to emulate or check on the Internet and read the list of ingredients.

You have the information, what do you expect from here?
We cannot (figuratively) hold your hand to produce these things, you have to put in some effort yourself. Having said that, the lack of expertise on your part is quite worrying considering you hope to capture the majority of the market in your country.

This is one of those situations where it is critically important for you, Siddarth, to hire a consultant who is familiar with the raw material availability (and cost) situation in your country particularly. It won’t do you any good if we give you formulas that have ingredients that are sold only in America, or that are extremely expensive in India. We do not have access to that information.
