Here are some of my formulating secrets. And what they mean to you.
When formulating product fragrances using essential oils, I use the language of music. I think about notes. Top, middle, and base notes.
And there is a secret as to why I have these sorts of product reviews:
Oh my goodness! I am so in love with the scent. I never expected it to smell so divine, luxurious and calming. For someone who detest strong scents, this is a winner.
Fact is that many brands focus on the top notes in their product fragrance blends. It’s these notes that dissipate the fastest. Are often the most common. And the cheapest essential oils. They instantly seduce.
And these product fragrances are designed for a quick sale.
I don’t focus on top notes. I much prefer to formulate with the more expensive base and middle notes. They dissipate slower. And the seduction is more subtle. Longer lasting.
Take for example, my Patchouli Lavender Face Wash formulation. I formulated Pogostemon cablin (Patchouli) oil, Lavandula angustifolia (Lavender) oil, and Citrus aurantium bergamia (Bergamot) fruit oil. So, it’s a base note, middle note, and a slight dash of top note, Bergamot.
I do similar with my Litsea Patchouli Face Wash. The blend is Cedrus atlantica (Cedarwood) oil, Pogostemon cablin (Patchouli) oil, Litsea cubeba (May Chang) fruit oil. So, it’s two base notes and a middle note.
Emotionally, you benefit. Base notes are more enduring than top notes. They are balancing, warming, and grounding.
