It’s described as calming, sensual, seductive and rejuvenating.

But you probably haven’t heard of Styrax benzoin.

This is an essential oil I have had my eyes on for years. It’s derived from the natural balsamic resin excreted by several species of Styrax trees.

The one I have formulated with comes from Sumatra, Indonesia. It also grows in Cambodia, China, Java, Laos, Malaysia, Thailand and Viet Nam.

The fragrance is rich. Intensely sweet, balsamic, and vanilla-like. There is a subtle, spicy/cinnamon-like undertone.

I have formulated an oil-based perfume and a solid perfume.

In these various blends, I’m also working with Vetiver, Clary Sage and Ylang Ylang.
