  • Syndet bar/ shampoo bar - melt and pour or extrusion?

    Hi!

I am working on syndet bars and shampoo bars. After 6 months I developed my formula, that is pretty nice at foaming and it stays enough hard during using, doesn’t get mushy.

In R&D lab I am making it by melting and pouring, but I am thinking about scaling up and production. It seems pretty time consuming to melt it in homogenizing mixer and then pour it into the molds. Do you know any machines or methods that would be helpful?

I also saw an extrusion process and I think most of the products on the market are made by extrusion or are pressed. Can you please tell me about your experiences with extrusion process? If I have a formulation that is nice when melted and poured will it also be compatibile with extrusion?

Hi I don’t know at which stage of production you are in but if you need labels done for your products, my client https://agenameplate.com/blank-labels/ makes bulk labels for companies both small and large. They work with shampoo companies too! So let them know Linda Jordan sent you if you use them for your label needs. They also provide free samples for bulk orders. They are a Los Angeles label manufacturer with a large factory all made in the USA.

I think that it very much depends on the market you are targeting.

    With my experience as
the co-founder of a skincare manufacturing factory in Viet Nam and Malaysia
since 2006, and producing shampoo bars for brands globally, we stayed well away from melt and pour and made the shampoo bars in very large moulds of 12 Kg and did 5 of these moulds in every production run.

Melt and pour syndet bars is a very competitive space with low-profit margins. Not the space we wanted to be in.

Thank you very much for your response. We will be producting in Europe.

So when you did the shampoo bars in 12kg moulds, then ypu were cutting them into smaller, ready-to-use pieces? 🙂

<div>Yes, from the 12 Kg moulds, we cut these first into “logs,” and then cut the logs into soap bars. We had the cutters designed and made in the USA.
