And I’d certainly be interested in hearing about the journeys and transitions others have made.

It has been a very long journey for me from botanist to skincare manufacturer, and now I’m transitioning into retirement.

My arrival in Ha Noi, Viet Nam, was a pivotal turning point in my life.

Here, I discovered a street named Lang Ong after the medic and writer Hai Thuong Lan Ong (1724-1791).

On this street, vendors cut and packaged medicinal herbs. I inhaled the fragrances of a vast range of herbs. As a result, in 2006, my wife and I co-founded our skincare manufacturing company, Indochine Natural, in Ha Noi, amongst the atmosphere and aromas of this street.

And these Ha Noi influences continued to Penang Island, Malaysia, where in 2009 we established another factory.

We departed from Penang last year and headed directly to Saigon (aka Ho Chi Minh City).

Fascinating account there, Mike. You and your wife were indie-natural beauty before that was cool. I take it you are transitioning out of this personal care vortex now? Good luck to you in your next phase.

Hi @chemicalmatt, no, I’m still in this space and have transitioned into advising and helping companies and individuals on all-things to do with skincare and fragrance.
