Formulation Issue
Posted by Unknown Member on December 31, 2023 at 9:07 amI am currently facing an issue with our basic cream emulsion, Despite incorporating an appropriate amount of fragrance, there persists an unpleasant raw material odor, akin to a plastic smell. Can you help me with solutions and strategies for improving the fragrance profile of our basic cream emulsion?

Firstly, does your cream have an unpleasant odour before adding fragrance?
Can you provide more details about the fragrance you using?
-
thank you for your reply.
the cream have a strong smell from the raw materials.
cetyl alcohol, cetearyl alcohol, shea butter, almond oil, span 60, glycerin…
-
The ingredients you mention are probably causing the smell you describe.
But when you mention “incorporating an appropriate amount of fragrance” can you please describe (i) what fragrance and percentage used, and (ii) your production method including how and when the fragrance is added.

It would be useful if you list your ingredients (no percentages needed), to see if something in there could be the reason.

Hello Sir/Mam
I am working on a trial batch of Cysteamine Hydrochloride Cream and serum (5%). The odour of cysteamine hydrochloride is very bad. How can I remove this bad odour? I added maltodextrin / Lactic Acid to get rid from this odour. Nothing is working. Please guide me on this.
Thanks & Regards

I’m so sorry to hijack this post but can’t for the life of me find out how to put a post up.
I’m in need of help if anyone can give me some
So I’m very new to formulating and have been trying different formulas for a curl gel but when I add the oil phase to my water phase it goes a creamy colour
Water phase
Water
Aloe vera juice
Vegetable glycerin
Xantham gum
Polysorbate 20
Nancide
Grapefruit extract
Oil phase
Jojoba oil
Baobab oil
Broccoli seed oil
Vitamin e
What am I doing wrong please help
-
May or may not be important to your problem but that is a useless preservative system
Nancide (assume Naticide) is a sham. If by “Grapefruit extract” you mean the seed extract, you’ve fallen for more BS.

Like I said I’m new to this
I’m happy to listen to your opinions

What is your preservative policy? do you use formaldehyde releasers? parabens? And what is your pH?

Gels don’t have oil phases (unless you are formulating a cream gel, which is a different type of product). If you want a crear gel, remove all your oily materiales, since you’re forming an emulsion (that’s why the white color). By the way, I don’t see any styling polymers in your formula.

Thank you so much for replying it means alot ketchito
Yep definitely new to this , I wasn’t aware of oil not being in gel formulations my research on different curly hair gels do have oils in them ( grapeseed oil &hydrolyzed protiens)
I do have a PVP/VA copolymer
Would that work in this formulation if I took out the oil based products
Many thanks
-
No worries. Probably the products you saw put just few drops of oils, enough so polysorbate 20 would solubilize them. Good you’re using PV/VA copolymer. You could add some PVP if you want more fixation (but not so much, since it’s very hygroscopic).
