  • Lip Smacker lip balm: How do they make their flavors so strong & long-lasting?

Hi everyone. I’ve been trying so hard to make a lip balm formula that (1) would have the “sickly sweet” level of aroma/flavor that a brand like Lip Smacker has. I also (2) notice the Lip Smacker flavour lasts forever, whereas after about 2 months, my balms almost fully lose their scent.

Any idea how Lip Smacker does it? This is a list of their ingredients

(Castor) Seed Oil, Cetyl Acetate, Beeswax, Flavor/Aroma, (Candelilla) Wax, Polybutene, Paraffin, (Sesame) Seed Oil, (Carnauba) Wax/Cire De Carnauba, Hydrogenated Soybean Oil, Mineral Oil/Huile Minerale Acetylated Lanolin Alcohol, Microcrystalline Wax, Triticum Vulgare Wheat) Germ Oil, Stearic Acid, Stevia Rebaudiana Leaf/Stem Extract, Propylene Glycol, Propyl Gallate, Citric Acid, Phenoxyethanol, Tocopherol. Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Yellow 5 Lake (CI 19140), Yellow 6 Lake (CI 15985).

I’m trying to go for a more natural approach with the following ingredients:
Coconut oil, Sunflower Seed Oil, Castor Oil, Olea Europaea (olive) wax , (Cocoa) Butter, (candelilla) wax, Ricinus Communis (castor) Wax, Natural Flavor Oil, Mangifera Indica (mango) Seed Butter, Stevia Rebaudiana, Tocopherol (vitamin e)

add more fragrance lol. what’s your current % of fragrance. based on lip smacker’s IL, i would guess they have fragrance in 3-5%, which is a lot.

Maybe include a lip-safe fixative- more ‘premium’ fragrances may already include those. I think triethyl citrate or dipropylene glycol should work, if you search those in this forum you’ll see some guidance
