    Hi there! 🙂

Recently I’ve been developing a lot of hair care formulations and now I’ll develop some products destined for the professional market (hair masks, pomades/balms and oils).

I’d like to know the opinion of formulators on these type of products. From what I know, there’s no big difference between these products and traditional hair care products (e.g. Pantene, TRESemmé, Elvive). The main differences, from what I observed, are the packaging (professional products usually have more fancy/premium packaging), marketing ingredients (professional products usually have exotic vegetable oils, plant extracts, aminoacids, proteins, vitamins as marketing ingredients) and the communication used by the brand.

But I would like to know from you. What do you think are the main highlights of professional products? What make consumers choose professional products over the traditional ones? Is this more of a marketing thing or there’s big differences on the technical aspects (formulation) of these products?

Looking forward to hear from you and start this discussion!

    Kind regards.

hi from my point of few, there is not a lot of difference between what you can buy in the supermarket and the Hair Stylist. The Products have the same ingredients there is no special ingredient that you would only find in professional care Products.

I think ist more of marketing and “being part of Premium Club”. “What costs more needs to be more efficient”. and so on.

I see a lot of Test results for Hair Care products and mostly the cheap ones Perform not SOOOOOO much worse than the high price ones if the Ingredients are compared and sometimes the cheap ones even out perform the expensive onse.

The differences are all just marketing stories. For a formulator, there’s no substantial difference.
