  • How to calculate melting point of final product?

    Hi!

Im wanting to figure out at what temperature could I expect my lip balm to melt. I want to be able to give my customers a number in Fahrenheit so they know what temps to avoid so that their lip balms don’t melt.
Would I have to figure out the melting point of each ingredient and then take averages? I’ve been out of gen chem for 9 years, so I’m a little rusty ????

    thank you!

for reference, here are the ingredients used from highest amount to lowest:

    Avocado Oil
    Stearic Acid
    High Melt Point Shea Butter
    Candelilla Wax
    Jojoba Oil
    Vitamin E Oil
    Essential/Flavor Oil

The easiest way is to heat up a sample and observe it until it melts.

Trying to calculate a melting point is probably too complicated as it’s difficult to know how each ingredient impacts the crystalline structure of the balm.
