What Are The Wackiest Product Ideas You’ve Been Asked To Develop?
My top 4:
(1) A beauty product line targeted toward male genitals
(2) An all-natural vaginal and anal bleach/whitening product. And a companion cream that tightens the vagina
(3) A cream or foam that would replace toilet paper
(4) My all-time favorite: A lip gloss that would contain a highly-addictive ingredient that would literally create an addiction in end-use consumers. And, to top it off, a lawyer was one of the principals.

To be fair, depending on where you are in the world, the cream or foam to replace toilet paper could come in handy, such as North Africa where you either bring your own toilet paper or you have to improvise since most establishments do not make toilet paper available in the restrooms. But, in this case the idea was to install a foam dispenser in public restrooms in the US in lieu of toilet paper.
Funny story … I lived in Portugal for a few and went to Fatima. Walked into the bathroom and it was equipped with the strangest plumbing fixtures I had ever seen. I could not decipher the difference between what was supposed to be the urinal and what was the lavatory. So, I waited for someone to come so I could watch what equipment they used for each specific purpose. No one came and I could not wait any longer, so I made what I thought was a logical decision.
As I was urinating, two men walked in and I could tell from the incredulous look on their faces that I was urinating in the lavatory. Not to be deterred, I acted like everything was normal and then proceeded to wash my hands in the urinal. Who knows, maybe they were wrong!

I don’t think anything can beat that list. It’s simply unbelievable! Regarding (4), many people actually think that all lipbalms are addictive. Like if you start using it you can’t stop. I think the reason is that they just get ‘addicted’ to a new normal - not having dry and cracked lips.

I think a better list would be the Formulations that people requested, but which were not feasible upon proof of concept.

Here is one, I made wipes for 2 prostitutes as the lap dancing they did each day often involved sprays of semen in and around the vaginal area so they needed to use a lot of wipes;and apparently when they pole dance, the genital areas of the dancers make contact with the pole so they needed to wipe after dancing too.They couldn’t find wipes that were OK to use like 20 times a day, so I made wipes that kept everything in balance ie the flora, pH and were gentle enough to use frequently.They were really nice girls and I had a great time working with them!!!Big eye opener for me…I am far less judgemental now!

I worked on…
1. Condom in a soap bar (sex doesn’t have to be dirty!)
2. Weight loss lotion. Used aromatherapy to make you not hungry. -

Oh yes! … the “I’ve never seen a product like this before” and when they describe their concept to you it violates the laws of chemistry and physics. I can’t recall any specifics, but certainly have had a few of those.

1. I had a client that was “over top natural” and wanted to create a Pomade that was all butters and oils, BUT would change color. “Can’t we just use the same chemicals as pH strips?”2. An intimate area hair removal product that would have used a high viscosity (think silly putty) silicone which would be applied to the area and the hair pulled away. A polymer chemist had already told them it was not possible. -
A pubic hair straightening cream … LOL! … That’s a good one. I think there may be a market for “pubic perms”

@MarkBroussard unfortunately I think there IS market for pubic perms by judging from doing a Google search for aforementioned terms 🙄 And apparently you can buy pubic permanent hair color from eBay to go with it:

What ingredient was that lawyer expecting you to put in there to make it so addictive? Cocaine?!?! -
I never got that far into the discussion and honestly, did not want to know any specifics … they described something that would effect the addiction when the end user licked their lips.
Once I heard the concept, it was time to hang up the phone as what they were proposing is illegal and unethical in so, so many ways.

Just wow…did you explain it’s highly illegal and unethical? Not that I think it would’ve deterred them anyway… just wondering how they reacted.I can hear them saying it in court now: “But Your Honor, there are already ‘addictive’ lip balms on the market! What’s different than mine?” -

A prominent dermatologist I formulate for is big on anal bleaching and even does micro-botox to “smooth the anus wrinkles”. He wanted a take-home topical that can elongate clinical bleaching efficacy, as well as smooth/plump the wrinkles. All I could think about was a) who is looking at the anus this close up, and b) who the fu*k cares! He hinted at having adult performers as patients, and that these treatments were big in Holywood overall. I respectfully declined the project.

The derm has one of the largest egos and personalities out there. He can basically sell anything with his name attached. I’m just not comfortable creating products in that category, for a variety of reasons. Thankfully, his interest in the product faded over time. That way I didn’t have to constantly be the asshole denying him the project. Pun intended.

I got it as a gift…and is hands down the thickest, greasiest product I’ve ever used…the morning after using it I still had butter everywhere that hadn’t soaked in! On the plus side, it smells amazing, lol 😆

Have a new weirdo formula & I just finished it!
A Pole Dancing grip glue, organic of course!!I seem to get all the pole dancers ha!Although, this guys wife just won Australia’s got talent & now has been sent to the finals of America’s got talent doing her pole dancing routine with the pole adhesive grip!!
