Leaching of phtalates - nail lacquer
Dear Forum
I need to perform a quantitative GC-FID method to establish possible leaching of plasticizer in a nail formulation (into water).
Can someone please help with an applicable method in order to do so?
Your assistance will be highly appreciated.

Good luck with that. You really need to talk to an analytical chemist or two, and I don’t think that there are any here.

Hi Fishie,GC will work but the method you really need to use is UHPLC with UV detection. It is the very effective method used to do with plasticizers in P.E.T drinking/water bottles. There is more than 30 phthalates that I can think just in my head that could have been used so you want high end equipment for testing.Coming from the colour worlds as a colour manufacturer, I have supplied colour to be put into phthalates, so the visual colour or UV colour can be seen when the phthalate separates or leaches out into the water. Great for detection when DBT’s or in very low conc.If you can not find a local company to perform this…. Maybe try a local university to do it for you as a practical and for a small donation?Hope this helps,Luke -
