Why does having What a lot of rice bran wax cause instability, what other high hlb emulsifiers do you prefer
    and isn’t peg-40 and polysorbate 80 a emulsifier with a hlb of 15?

I tried using peg-40 hco instead of poly 80,
6% peg-40 hydrogenated castor oil and 2% polyssrbate 80. The washability was not as good as it used to be, you have any tips on how to improve the wash? Maybe adding other emulsifiers?

    You recommend polysorbate 60?

I might also use some peg-40 hydrogenated castor oil instead of polysorbate 80

I was trying the formula again, using less EO, but it did not work, I first added the preservative and that caused the seperation. Upon further reading I discovered that phenoxyethanol and ethylhexylglycerin is not compatible with a high amount of polysorbates, so that can cause the instability ->http://makingskincare.com/preservatives/. I may have to switch to another preservative. Do you have any suggestions?

I will try again using less essential oil, at 1%. I am using polysorbate 80. How much oil would have been apropiate? How do you see there is too much oil?

    waterphase:
    water
    glycerin

    oil phase:
    rice bran wax
    cetylalcohol
    hydrogenated castor oil
    castor oil
    apricot kernel oil

    essential oil
    preservative 12

    emulsifiers:
    polysorabte 80 and glyceryl stearate

the hlb matches the oil phase, if I go above 16% rice bran wax my emulsion does weird things. Also consider that this is a o/w emulsion with the oil phase being around 25% of the whole formula. But I should also note that during mixing somehow it wouldnt mix either, I saw no even white color even some yellowing.

Hello what did you mean by  homolog array? The molecule size/length?

I tried using different percentages of peg 7 glyceryl cocoate and peg 40 Hydrogenated castor oil, is it also appropiate to use cleansing agents in hair pomades to make it easier to rinse?

Is Phenoxyethanol and Ethylhexylglycerin also another good option instead of Parabens?

I tried the same formula and I noticed that it started seperating when adding the spectrastat, I will give parabens a shot. They are also way cheaper.

I have often used those ingredients without any seperation, but I will try that out and do you have other suggestions?

The gums were too sticky for me and made the application horrible. So I switched to carbomer. So we can say that kaolin and bentonite do not have influence on the pH of the emulsion, because they are water insoluble?

I find it really hard to believe that clays can influence pH levels without dissolving. But I give it a try with and without bentonite and see how I like the finish.

Ah that’s too bad to hear man :(, the thing with petro and lanolin is that it keeps grip in your hair for a long time, I was wondering what other ingredients have this attribute but it seems nothing has it

I don’t think so, are there any other alternatives? I have also heard castor wax can be a good option.
